Carole RidoutPAUL MEAKIN & CAROLE RIDOUT are the two LibDem Candidates standing in the new 2-seat District Council ward of UCKFIELD NEW TOWN

Paul MeakinUckfield New Town's Paul Meakin has earned a reputation for not only listening to residents' views, but for actively supporting them by working hard and getting things done. With experience both as a current Uckfield Town Councillor and as a former District Councillor, Paul is passionate about conservation and protecting the natural environment. He is also sympathetic to those who have become disillusioned by politics in general. "With so much drama in the news, it's easy to understand if people are simply fed up with the endless arguing by today's politicians," says Paul. "And it is worrying when no prominence is given to local issues that are real concerns for us all, including illegal and inconsiderate parking, unreliable waste collection, housing and over-development, pressure on local services, traffic congestion, pollution, public safety and policing, to name just a few."

However, he believes that the upcoming May 2nd elections offer a crucial opportunity for real change at a local level and urges everyone to get out and vote, saying, "Your vote will really make a difference."

Paul is also excited at the prospect of working alongside his fellow Liberal Democrat District Council candidate Carole Ridout, whose energy and enthusiasm combine well with his own extensive experience and local knowledge. "Both Carole and I are community-minded and believe firmly in putting people before party Politics," says Paul. "If elected, we will not only each ensure that New Town residents are properly represented at District Council level, but will remain transparent and available, holding regular surgeries so residents can always speak with us freely, and in person."

Since moving to the area five years ago, Carole Ridout and her husband John have been enjoying exploring Sussex and spending time with their adult children and young grandchildren who live nearby. Recently retired, Carole has extensive experience in managing teams responsible for logistics, supply chain, IT, compliance, projects and customer service, and she has already become involved with a range of community initiatives.

"I am particularly keen to find real, lasting solutions to the longstanding parking problems for residents in Uckfield's New Town, as well as tackling the road safety issues along Framfield Road," says Carole. "If elected, I promise to be an active voice for each and every resident."
