Meet Roanna Brewer, LibDem District Council candidate for Pevensey Bay

April 23, 2019 12:39 PM

ROANNA BREWER is the Liberal Democrat Wealden District Council candidate for the new ward of PEVENSEY BAY

Roanna BrewerRoanna Brewer is a self-employed local mum and passionate campaigner on many issues including mental health and education. Her local campaigning has included engagement on various key topics, from the ongoing problems with dog fouling to the implementation of the new extra green bin charge "which," says Roanna, "feels like another stealth tax on hard working residents, while council taxes continue to rise and services to decline."

A longtime road safety activist, Roanna says she welcomes Sussex Police's new initiative Community SpeedWatch, and looks forward to adding her input while continuing to push for safer local crossings. She has also recently campaigned alongside fellow Pevensey resident and Liberal Democrat Parish Councillor Helen Burton to get their local library - another valued resource and victim of local cuts - reopened. With the boundary changes now coming into effect, Roanna sees the newly created District Council ward of Pevensey Bay as a chance for local residents to vote for the change their community so desperately needs. "The cuts have already had a devastating affect on Pevensey Bay," explains Roanna. "The library was forced to close. We have lost our community police officer. Parking enforcement is no longer available in the village. Roads are full of potholes and pavements unsafe. Grass cutting and local services for the elderly, disabled and children with special needs have been drastically reduced. Local organisations like the Volunteer Network are trying to fill the gap to make sure residents of Pevensey Bay have the support they need, but they shouldn't have to! Where is the increase in our council tax going?!"

In order to create real, positive and lasting change, Roanna is appealing to all Pevensey Bay residents to turn out and vote on May 2nd. "We need local councillors to fight against these cuts, but another Conservative-led District Council will mean more of the same for Pevensey Bay," she says. "To give us the best chance of real change, I am asking you to vote Liberal Democrat at the Wealden District Council elections on May 2nd, whatever your national political allegiance may be. I am ready to challenge local authority cuts, to hold power to account and to both listen to, and advocate meaningfully for, all residents."
