Mark Fairweather - Pevensey & Stone Cross

Mark Fairweather inspecting potholes in WesthamMark moved to Sussex in 1977 for university and stayed in the Brighton area for the next 19 years. He worked as a science teacher across Sussex, also commuting to London, before moving to teach abroad for two decades (but returning to Sussex almost every summer). Since there have been Fairweathers living in Sussex for at least 70 years, Mark felt that it was always his natural home.

For nearly 50 years, Mark has been involved in community affairs, spanning a wide variety of roles. He also has an active interest in a broad range of environmental matters. He joined the Young Liberals in 1975 and was politically active in Brighton from 1981 until he moved overseas in 1996. During this period he stood as candidate a number of times, and also helped the other candidates and councillors, including with some casework.

At university, Mark sat on the Accommodation Appeals Committee, hearing hundreds of appeals over four years. With his many years of experience, both professionally and in the community, Mark will be a proactive County Councillor, working for all residents in Pevensey, Westham and Stone Cross.

The Fairweather family returned to the UK permanently in 2017 and settled in the Pevensey area. Mark has resumed teaching in local colleges and their son finished his primary education at Pevensey and Westham, and now attends a local secondary school. So, as both a current parent and teacher, Mark has personal interest in - and insight into - the local education system.
