The end of Wealden DC?

20 Mar 2025
James Partridge

The council meeting on 18th March was called to consider interim proposals which would lead to all the local councils in east Sussex being abolished and replaced by a single “unitary” council.

James went on to say “the biggest local government reorganisation in two generations is on us. The outcome will directly affect everyone who lives or works here for better or worse. If everyone involved gets it right, then it’s possible that public services in our area will be transformed for the good of all. If they get it wrong, then a great deal of money, time, energy and stress will be wasted”.

"I think everyone gets it that all is not well with local public services – people who live in my ward certainly do: why can’t we have a speed camera on London Road, they ask? is my doctor still alive? Mummy - what does a policeman look like? and please, please can someone make the water and sewage run in the pipes and drains, not in the roads and rivers - and don’t get me going on the on the potholes!”
