Wealden LibDem Councillor says local BLM rally was "profoundly moving"
While the recent national media focus has focussed on the Black Lives Matter rallies in London and other major cities, there have been plenty of smaller protests happening in towns and villages across the country, including here in Wealden.
Mia Lederman, LibDem Town Councillor for Crowborough North attended the BLM rally in Tunbridge Wells on Saturday June 6th with her daughter (pictured left and below), and described the rally as being entirely peaceful and really inspiring - not least because everyone who attended wore masks and practiced social distancing in family groups.
"I was so moved by the BLM rally in Tunbridge Wells," says Mia. "It was thoughtful, profoundly moving and beautifully done. Everyone was responsible, respectful, and full of loving kindness. The young woman who organised it was an inspiration. Kneeling for 8 minutes 45 seconds in silence (the same amount of time that the US police officer knelt on George Floyd's neck) held everyone in that shared space in the most shattering and deep way that I will never forget.
"We came home and we made a decision to call it out every time. Whenever we see it. Wherever we see it. Well done Tunbridge Wells.. you showed up for something that really mattered." 🖤
Meanwhile, our PPC and Parliamentary Spokesman Chris Bowers attended another peaceful BLM rally in Lewes and posted about it on Twitter together with a selfie (below).
