Wealden LibDems at the whopping People's Vote March in London
Trains across Wealden were packed on the morning of Saturday March 23rd (not least because Southern apparently didn't get the memo and therefore hadn't added any extra carriages, let alone extra trains!) as thousands of Sussex residents travelled up to London for what would turn out to be not only the biggest People's Vote March to date but, with estimates of well over a million marchers, possibly the biggest ever demonstration in the UK.
The atmosphere on the trains was lively and collegiate, just like the massive march itself, with everyone united in one common purpose -- demanding through peaceful, democratic protest that the government heed what is now the real will of the British people - that after two years of Mayhem, the majority now wants to stop the looming Brexit disaster (that is being pushed through by the few against the wishes of the many) by holding a People's Vote on Brexit with the option to Remain in the EU. Meanwhile, there is now also a growing call for the government to stop Brexit altogether while it still can, as shown by the petition to Revoke Article 50 that was started just a few days ago and has already had over five million signatures (and counting). If you haven't yet signed it you can do so by clicking here
The very best of British traits were on display at the People's Vote March on Saturday, such as solidarity, determination, cautious optimism and collective good humour. Plus loads of really inventive hand-made signs...
Groups of Wealden LibDems travelled up from various stations including Lewes, Uckfield and Crowborough, then convened as planned at Victoria station along with the apolitical pro-Remain action group Sussex For Europe. We also enjoyed meeting up with, travelling, and marching alongside groups from across Sussex and the whole of the UK, including like-minded anti-Brexit moderates from any and all political parties.
