Wealden Local Plan Submission Jan 2019

All Members & Supporters of Wealden Liberal Democrats are invited to attend a meeting to be updated regarding the recently withdrawn Wealden Local Plan:

WHEN: Saturday 15th February from 7pm until 9pm

WHERE: Council Chamber, Uckfield Civic Centre, Uckfield TN22 1AE

RSVP: caroleridout@icloud.com

The Chair of Wealden Liberal Democrats, Steve Murphy, sent out the following explanatory letter along with the invitation:

Dear Member/Supporter

You may be aware that the Government planning inspector has asked Wealden Council to withdraw its Local Plan submitted in May 2019. Among reasons given are that it failed in its legal duty to cooperate both with Natural England and with neighbouring planning authorities. The inspector condemned the plan as lacking 'credibility', and has instructed the council to prepare a new plan for approval

The submitted plan proposed the development of 950 houses a year in Wealden, until 2028. The inspector has stated that this should rise to 1231 homes a year during the same period . The risk now is that many previously rejected housing developments will be resubmitted to the council for approval, affecting many Wealden towns and villages

Four Liberal Democrat councillors were successfully elected to Wealden District council in May 2019, and are now able to challenge the Tories on this topic, and to influence the new Plan

At this meeting, Liberal Democrat group leader Cllr Paul Sparks will give Members and Supporters an update on the issue, and there will be a discussion afterwards when questions can be raised by the audience

If you are interested in attending please come along, we would love to see you. There will also be refreshments and an opportunity to meet other Members. We hope that you can make it.

Steve Murphy
Chair
Wealden Liberal Democrats
